Unit E: Writing programs (Open Office writer)

What you can learn

The purpose of the formative unit is to let the “grandparents” execute by themselves, with the help of the grandchildren, the following applications (on a working computer with “open office” application already installed):

  • Opening, saving, closing and archiving text files
  • Individuating toolbars, such as menu, visualizing, and so on
  • Using execution menu buttons
  • Familiarizing with the keyboard: main buttons and functions
  • Writing and formatting: how to underline the text, paragraphs and justification
  • How to choose a writing style, lists
  • Composing and modifying a text: Cut/copy and paste
  • Set a page, preview, print

Operative details

In the formative unit we mostly propose exercises, supported by tutorial lessons useful to improve the most important opportunities offered by the writing program.
In the tutorial lessons we will explain more than we will effectively practice.
These pages are specifically projected to facilitate the principal functions of text editing program (format, save, archive, print, ...).
The “grandchildren” use the GYM pages in order to transfer the basic concepts to the “grandparents” clearly. They should be ready to guide and to assist the “grandparents” carefully as well as to carry out common exercises at the end of the training parts. They also should be ready to talk with the “grandparents” about their experiences with Open Office Writer and about the purposes of the Writer program.
